One afternoon, my teenage son slammed the front door and announced dramatically,
“That’s it!”
“I’m finally escaping this dictatorship!”
I simply smiled, wished him good luck…
…and let him leave.
Two weeks later…
My phone rang.
It was him.
“Hey, Dad…”
“Can I ask you something?”
“Sure.”
He hesitated.
“Is it normal for toothpaste, toilet paper, trash bags, and dish soap to cost this much?”
I couldn’t help smiling.
“Yep.”
“That’s called being an adult.”
Silence.
A long…
Very expensive silence.
Then he quietly asked,
“Hypothetically…”
“…if I moved back home…”
“…would I get the Premium Family Plan again?”
I laughed.
“Absolutely.”
He sounded relieved.
Then I added,
“Only now you’ll finally understand the difference…”
“…between a prison…”
“…and a five-star hotel.”
“Unlimited meals.”
“Free Wi-Fi.”
“Laundry service.”
“Utilities included.”
“…and a 24-hour chef named Dad.” 😂🤣
Funny how quickly…
“Freedom” becomes expensive.
