Isabella, a young housekeeper from Brazil, was employed by an affluent but stingy New York couple. Deciding she was overdue for some financial appreciation, she approached her wealthy female boss one morning to ask for a raise.
The boss looked annoyed. “Well, Isabella, why on earth do you think you deserve a raise?”
Isabella replied confidently, “Madam, there are three reasons. First, I iron clothes much better than you do.”
The boss smirked. “Oh really? And who told you that?”
“Your husband did,” Isabella said.
The boss frowned slightly. “I see.”
“The second reason,” Isabella continued, “is that I am a far superior cook compared to you.”
“That is ridiculous!” the boss snapped. “Who claimed you are a better cook than me?”
“Your husband also told me that,” Isabella smiled.
The boss’s face darkened. “Go on.”
“The third and final reason,” Isabella said smoothly, “is that I am a much more passionate and satisfying lover than you are.”
The boss went completely pale, her blood pressure instantly skyrocketing. “And I suppose,” she hissed, “my husband told you that as well?!”
“Oh, no, Madam,” Isabella replied calmly. “The pool boy did.”
The boss took a deep breath, adjusted her collar, and said, “Alright then… how much of a raise are we talking about?”
