On their 40th wedding anniversary, an elderly couple sat together after dinner.
The old man had become unusually sentimental.
He took his wife’s hand and smiled.
“You know, after all these years, there’s something I’ve always wanted to ask you.”
“What is it?” she replied.
“Every time I kiss you, you close your eyes.”
The wife nodded.
“Yes, I do.”
The old man leaned forward.
“I’ve always wondered why.”
“Was it because you felt butterflies?”
The wife shook her head.
“No.”
“Was it because you felt emotional?”
“No.”
“Was it because you wanted to savor the moment?”
“Definitely not.”
The old man looked disappointed.

The wife put down her knitting, looked him straight in the eye, and sighed.
